TOPIC(S): woody biomass harvest, harvest equipment
Two woody biomass demonstration harvest workshops will be conducted in September in the Western and Eastern Upper Peninsula. The purpose of these workshops is to inform loggers, foresters, and landowners about the operational aspects of harvesting woody biomass and the ecological constraints that should be applied. In addition to classroom presentations and a field demonstration of biomass harvesting equipment, the workshop will feature:
Review/discussion of biomass harvesting & transporting equipment options
Review/discussion of biomass harvesting guidelines
Inspection of the harvest site(s)
Demonstration of harvesting equipment
Summary of harvest planning considerations by the land manager
Speakers will be from Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Technological University, Forest Land Group, J.M. Longyear, John Deere, and Xcel Corporation.
Who should come?
The primary target audience is loggers and natural resource professionals. Continuing education credits may be available for SAF and SFI members.
